How to treat the qualification certification of translation companies

A translation company refers to an enterprise or industry that engages in commercial translation business activities for profit and provides translation services for customers. Its main forms are limited liability companies and joint stock companies.

The concept of translation authentication

Translation certification refers to the act that a translation agency officially registered in People's Republic of China (PRC) and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce or an agency with translation service qualification accurately translates the documents entrusted by customers, and affixes the seal of the translation service agency on the translated documents. A translation stamped with the seal of the translation service agency is a confirmation by the translation agency that the content of the translation is consistent with the original content, which embodies the responsibility of the translation agency. The translated documents are recognized by embassies and consulates at home and abroad and have certain authority, which is also called "translation".

Note: The subject of translation certification must be a formal translation company with translation service qualification established in China with the approval of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

Qualification of translation company

The qualification of translation companies can be further divided into two parts.

The first part is the legal qualification that a translation company should have as a market subject providing translation services. According to Article 12 of the Company Law, the business scope of the company is stipulated in the articles of association and registered according to law. A company may amend its articles of association and change its business scope, but it shall register the change. Projects that are required to be approved by laws and administrative regulations in the company's business scope shall be approved according to law. In other words, translation companies, as the main body of the market providing translation services, should declare their business scope including translation services to the administrative department for industry and commerce according to law. At present, domestic translation qualification is granted at the time of industrial and commercial examination and approval, and there is no need to apply to other separate administrative organs. The business entity shall be deemed to be qualified for translation if it has obtained the business license of unified social credit code issued by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce according to law, and its business scope includes translation services.

Note: Many translation companies have translation services in their business licenses, but their main business is not to provide translation services. A professional translation company whose main business is translation service, the company name contains the word "translation service" and the English name contains the word "translation". Generally, it is named "XX Translation Service Co., Ltd.", which has distinctive features. There are also some professional translation companies named "business services" and "consulting services", which are not mainly engaged in translation services.

The second part mainly refers to the professional qualities that a translator should have in translation. A manuscript is recognized by embassies and consulates at home and abroad and government law enforcement agencies only after it has been translated and stamped. The prerequisite for the validity of the document is that the translated content is consistent with the original content. The core of translation service is "translation", which requires the complete restoration of the original content. Documents with incorrect translation content, even if stamped with the seal of the translation company, will be returned by government agencies with the content and original content as negative. Therefore, the deeper requirement of translation service is to provide high-quality translation manuscripts.

Translators, as the main productive forces providing translation services, should have certain professional qualifications, graduated from translation majors in well-known universities in China, and obtained national translation industry qualification certificates or international certificates through systematic translation theory study, including the second-level graduation certificate of National Translation Professional Qualification Examination (CAATI), the intermediate certificate of National Foreign Language Translation Certificate Examination (NAETI) and the third-level translation certificate of Australian Translation Qualification Accreditation Agency (NAATI).

A translation company with translation certification qualification is the result of many conditions. When negotiating translation cooperation, consumers should ask and inquire about translation service agencies from various aspects to avoid unnecessary losses caused by translation quality problems.
