Jiujiang, called Chaisang, Jiangzhou and Xunyang in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province. It is one of the regional central cities in Jiangxi Province, a dual-core city with the integration of Chang-Jiu, a sub-central city of Poyang Lake urban agglomeration, a member city of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration, a fulcrum city of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and a regional modern central city of Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui and Hunan. Jiujiang City is located in the north of Jiangxi Province, the northernmost part of Jiangxi Province, at the intersection of the Yangtze River, Poyang Lake and Beijing-Kowloon Railway. Jiujiang enjoys a superior geographical position, with a river and a lake, and developed water transportation. The river basin directly leading to the Yangtze River covers an area of 3,904 square kilometers, with lakes over 10,000 mu 10 and lakes over 1,000 mu/3 1 0. Zhelin Reservoir, the largest reservoir in the province, has a storage capacity of 7.92 billion cubic meters. Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China, has 70% of the water area of Jiujiang, covering an area of nearly 3 million mu.
