On September 7th, 2000, Sony invested 100% in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province to establish a factory "Sony Electronics (Wuxi) Co., Ltd." to produce polymer lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, with an initial investment of 23 million US dollars. The new factory will produce polymer lithium-ion rechargeable batteries suitable for mobile terminals such as mobile phones for domestic and foreign markets, which will be officially put into production in April 20001year. The new factory in China is Sony's third production base for polymer lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. Together with the Fukushima production center in Japan and the new laredo factory in Mexico, Sony will form a "Japan-North America-China" production system in the field of polymer lithium-ion batteries. In order to meet the growing demand for polymer lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, Sony will further strengthen its global production and supply system. The workflow of the new factory will include the whole process from coating colloidal polymer on electrodes imported from Japan to making battery products, with a monthly output of about 2 million in the initial stage of production. Sony polymer lithium-ion rechargeable battery with superior performance will be able to meet the demand of mobile phone manufacturers for high performance and ultra-small power supply.
