8. How does Buddha face abuse?
Once, the Buddha visited the Acropolis, the capital of Saruo, and gave a tree growing on the outskirts of the south of the city to the lonely garden.
On this day, a young Brahmin came. Because he was dissatisfied with his brother becoming a monk with Buddha, he cursed Buddha with fierce words in front of him.
The Buddha quietly listened to the abuse and venting of the little Brahman, and then asked the little Brahman:
"Brahman! Have you ever had relatives and friends visit your home? 」
"Yes, Gotama! So what? 」
"Brahman! Have you ever prepared meals for visiting relatives and friends? 」
"Yes, Gotama! 」
"Brahman! If they don't eat the food you prepared, who will you give the food to in the end? 」
"Gotama! If they don't eat, of course, those diets are still mine. 」
"Yes, brahman! I didn't accept your rude remarks and insults when you came to me. Then who did you end up with those rude words? 」
"Gotama! Although you don't accept it, I have already given it to you. 」
"Brahman! How can you give it without my acceptance? 」
"Gotama! Then tell me, what is acceptance? What is giving? What is not accepted? What is not to pay? 」
"Brahman! If you scold me, I will turn around and scold; You are angry with me and I am angry with you; You hit me, I hit you; You hit me, I hit back, that is, you have accepted and completed your contribution. On the other hand, if you don't respond to insults; Anger responds to anger; Fists respond to fists; Fight in response to a fight; No acceptance, no giving. 」
"Gotama! I heard our virtuous Brahmin elder say that Tathagata, Arhat and others were scolded and insulted by others, and they were neither angry nor angry. Are you angry? 」
At this time, the Buddha replied:
"What will make a broken person upset forever?
You should know:
People who are good at self-regulation and live a just life will not be jealous.
What's more, he is a liberator who lives entirely by intelligence and wisdom!
It is a bad person and a bad thing to control anger with anger;
People who don't respond to anger with anger,
Win the hardest war.
Because he not only understands why the other person is angry,
You can also calm yourself down and bring up mindfulness.
Not only defeated others, but also defeated yourself.
A good doctor is one who is beneficial to both sides.
If someone thinks such a person is a fool,
That's just an ignorant man who doesn't understand Buddhism.
Not bad is better than bad; Good deeds are better than evil deeds;
Giving is better than greed; Honesty is better than lies.
Sages will not move their hearts, nor will they harm others.
But the wicked persist in hatred, but they are as hard to loosen as mountains.
A wandering heart is like a galloping horse;
A galloping horse must be controlled by a reins.
But controlling the reins of a galloping horse,
Far better than being able to control the inner voltage!
So I said that the best tuning master in the world,
Not the man who controls the horse with the reins. 」
note:
1. This story is based on Zaahan's No.1 1 152 classic, with the seventh corresponding to the second classic and the 75th classic of Bien Zaahan.
Second, the location of the story, "the seventh corresponding to the second classics" is called "the chinchilla feeding house in the bamboo forest of Wangshe City". However, considering that Quezaro is an Aryan-dominated city-state, Brahmins have more power and may have less respect for Buddha, so it is more likely for Brahmins to curse Buddha. Therefore, the Acropolis recorded in the Zaahan Sutra (Volume 1 152) and the Byan Zaahan Sutra (Volume 75) was adopted to plant trees only for solitary gardens. The name of the leading young brahmin, Zaahandi 1 152 sutra, young guest. Don't translate Zaahan's Seventh and Fifth Classics into a humble example of Mona (according to page 6074 of the Buddha's Light Dictionary, "Mona" has special significance for young brahmins), but translate the corresponding seventh and second Classics into a brahmin. Although there are differences in the records of characters and places, the main content of the story is consistent with the records of the three classics.
Third, at the beginning of the "Second Classics of the Seventh Correspondence", two Brahmins named Yarlung Zangbo River appeared, which made people puzzled. According to the notes in its English version, it was the younger brother who cursed the Buddha, and the older brother who became a monk with the Buddha, both of whom were called the Yarlung Zangbo River.
4. As for the Brahmin, another version was recorded in the Zaahan Sutra of 1 154: He said that he not only spoke ill of the Buddha, but also began to grab a handful of soil and scatter it on the Buddha. However, it may be that he is angry, his mind is not clear, and he doesn't realize that he is standing in the downwind. As a result, not only did the soil not spread on the Buddha, but when the headwind blew, he spread himself all over the place, which became the best portrayal of the secular newspaper of Angry Han, which was the same as "returning to yourself" in this story.
Once a person is angry, it is difficult to calm down, so he often loses his mind and forgets all the Buddhist teachings he has learned. As a result, he often does things that he regrets. At the same time, when anger comes, the first person who is physically and mentally forced by anger must be the angry person himself. It's really called "hurt yourself first, then hurt others". Therefore, getting angry is really a stupid thing that is not worth it.
Sixth, how can I not be angry? It's hard not to get angry with people who insist on me and have never met me. In the story, the Buddha put forward the great principle of "accommodation". The implementation of adjustment is the practice of correcting wrong mentality and behavior, that is, adjusting "over" and "under". Of course, before adjusting the treatment, we must first establish firm beliefs such as "Anger is wrong" and "Anger is not my goal of learning Buddhism", otherwise the adjustment treatment cannot be activated.
