What is a priest?

Pastor, a profession, is a person who is responsible for leading and taking care of other Christians in the general Protestant church. The word in the original Bible means shepherd. Treatment and support are the main duties of priests. The priest is loyal to the beliefs of his companions, treating and defending them.

Become a priest

First, this person must be a baptized Christian.

In China, 18 years old is usually required. Secondly, this person must be in the church for one year, attend classes for three months, and speak thoroughly. If parents want the newborn to be baptized, the priest can also baptize it.

If a believer is called by God to become a priest, he needs to apply for admission to a seminary to study theology. High school graduates can apply for provincial theological seminaries; High school students can go directly to Jinling Theological Seminary. In addition to this national seminary, there are 17 local seminaries or bible schools. When applying for a seminary, this person needs to obtain the recommendation of the church and the permission of the local religious affairs management department.

After completing seminary study and church practice, this person can become a priest through church ceremonies and exams. Protestant clergy in China include priests, elders, missionaries and theologians.
