Report on Social Practice of Horticulture

This summer vacation, the school assigned us a task, which is to participate in a professional social practice. The practical content of our ornamental gardening specialty is to study, visit and ask for information in the local garden department, and to participate in social practice in garden enterprises and institutions, including investigating the production situation and development prospects of the industry; Understand the industry demand for horticultural talents (quantity, quality, business ability, etc.). ) at least a few weeks. I was very excited when I learned that I was going to have social practice this summer, because I thought that I would become a junior after the summer vacation. In order to work calmly in the near future, I decided to use this internship to exercise my practical ability and enrich my professional basic knowledge.

Through contact, I was lucky enough to come to Xiamen Garden and Botanical Garden for social practice. Xiamen Botanical Garden is a comprehensive botanical garden with the construction of garden attractions as the main body, integrating plant scientific research and promotion, tourism service, garden engineering, green seedling production and other functions. The main research contents are plant introduction and domestication, germplasm resources protection and development and utilization. It is an important base for plant diversity protection, introduction and domestication, and an ideal place for botany field teaching. It is also the best place to popularize science education, improve people's cultural literacy and travel and rest.

There are 10 specialized gardens (areas) in the Botanical Garden, and the specialized gardens (areas) with characteristics and advantages are: psammophyte area, palm plant area, liana plant area, bougainvillea (city flower) area, cycad plant area, bamboo plant area, rainforest plant area and so on. At the beginning of the internship, led by a knowledgeable taxonomist in the Botanical Garden, I visited each special garden with several other interns from different schools. In this plant kingdom with more than 000 kinds of plants with different shapes, we recognize them as we walk. At the end of the day, we know many plants that we have never touched before, such as beautiful flowers, purple cicadas, roses and so on. Leaf-watching tourism banana, variable leaf wood, mosaic galangal, etc. Hanging gourd trees, sausage trees, etc. ; There are gymnosperms such as Pinus bungeana, Cedar, Taxodium, living fossil Ginkgo, etc. Bamboo, Phyllostachys pubescens, Phyllostachys pubescens, Phyllostachys pubescens and other bamboo plants scattered in the bamboo path; Palm Island is full of southern customs, such as King Coconut, Solanum lyratum Thunb, and dates in Ghana. Wang Lian, lotus, water lily and other fresh and beautiful aquatic plants in Baihua Hall; Native tree species such as Moringa oleifera and Melia azedarach for the purpose of protection and display; And plants that can be used as cash crops, such as sugar palm, oil palm, Iraqi candied dates, etc ... There are many kinds, which dazzle me and feel like a good lesson in species identification of ornamental plants, which really benefits me a lot.

After a whole day's visit, we had a preliminary impression of Xiamen Botanical Garden, and we walked in the beautiful natural landscape. Rich cultural landscape; Excellent geographical location and transportation are both, so it is very famous in Fujian Province and even at home and abroad, and tourists are constantly coming.

After the visit, we started our professional practice. In the next two weeks, I and several other interns studied and practiced in the introduction and domestication area, garden design room, desert plant area and tissue culture laboratory under the arrangement of the unit. Let me summarize the contents and feelings of my internship in these places.

The first is the introduction and domestication area, which is also the department with the longest internship time. According to the monitoring in this area, the introduction and domestication of plants is one of the basic tasks of botanical gardens, especially in the introduction and domestication of characteristic plants, which has distinct characteristics in local botanical gardens in China. Xiamen Botanical Garden mainly introduces and cultivates tropical and subtropical plants, among which Cycadaceae, Araceae, Palmae, Cactus and succulents, Bromeliaceae, Labiatae, Araceae, Gentianaceae, Araliaceae and Bougainvillea all occupy a place or are among the best in domestic botanical gardens. During my internship, I also saw many exotic flowers and plants that I had never heard of before, many of which turned out to be rare and endangered species. For these plants, I consulted my monitor, who has always been well versed in their growth habits and cultivation points. The monitor is a veteran gardener who has worked in the Botanical Garden for nearly 0 years and has a lot of experience in keeping up with thousands of plants. She said that since the establishment of the garden, they have extensively collected plant resources at home and abroad, applied the biological variation law and adaptability to different geographical and climatic conditions, and have become new cultivated varieties in this area through artificial selection, cultivation and domestication. Through introduction and domestication, the plant resources in this area can be enriched and serve for agricultural production, landscaping and improvement of ecological environment in this area. Now it has occupied a place in domestic botanical gardens, and gradually formed the characteristics of plant introduction and domestication in Xiamen Botanical Garden. After popularization and application, it has produced great social and economic benefits. According to the existing statistics, there are 0 kinds of plants introduced and cultivated by * * *, which is really an unimaginable number for me. I think it will take a long time to identify these plants one by one, not to mention being familiar with their growth habits and cultivation methods and knowing how to plant them, so that they can grow healthily and beautifully. That's really what the university asked. My road to gardening study has just begun. During the internship, because many plants are dormant in hot summer, the work is relatively easy. Under the arrangement and guidance of the monitor, I and several other interns do some simple work such as pruning, pruning, fertilizing and weeding, and cleaning up fallen leaves. The monitor takes good care of us. We don't work long hours every day. We always talk about school with the monitor and other employees while working. We get along well and feel that every day is good. While I was happy, I also asked the monitor a lot of gardening knowledge. Now I am learning to use it, and I feel more solid. Compared with the monitor, I am really a little girl who doesn't know many things. I secretly made up my mind that I must read more books and enrich my professional knowledge after returning to school, because this knowledge is very helpful for my future work and employment.

After a week's internship in the introduction and domestication area, I came to the landscape design institute. The design institute has a small department, but it has a heavy workload and is very busy. During my few days there, as chief engineer, Zhou was busy with many projects at the same time. Later, Duke Zhou told me that since this year is the year of major construction of the Botanical Garden, the area of the Garden has more than doubled, and the development of the Botanical Garden is facing new construction opportunities. Combined with the long-term planning, it is expected that the construction goal is: cactus and succulents, Palmae, Bougainvillea, tourism, Cycadaceae, bamboo, vines and other plant species will rank among the top in the country. The second is to speed up the construction of characteristic parks and enrich the urban landscape. It is estimated that 20 special gardens will be built in 2000, among which cactus world, palm plant area, tropical rain forest world and liana plant area will all become characteristic special gardens of botanical gardens and national first-class special gardens. Third, strengthen plant science research, focus on solving related technical problems and problems in urban green space construction, and serve the landscaping of bay cities. Therefore, their work has been as busy as a bee this year and has become the focus of the botanical garden. My internship task this time is mainly to help Duke Zhou and others do some basic drawing classification and accompany them to the construction site to watch the construction of some characteristic parks that are about to be completed and still under construction. I'm a horticulture major, and I'm not interested in site construction, so I focused on the garden design and ornamental plant configuration in the garden. I found that the planting design of the botanical garden and the design of some garden sketches were really great, which left a deep impression on me. For example, in Ximen, I can enjoy the precious flowers hawaii coconut, Helan, Bodhi Tree, a sacred Buddhist tree, and Cycas, a plant in the dinosaur era. Nanmu sparse forest grassland is dominated by all kinds of tall and straight nanmu, with a large area of lawn as the keynote and proper use of gentle slope land, showing a lofty and broad artistic conception. The autumn maple trees standing by the lake are rare wind-resistant trees. There are several clusters and rows of Aralia elata around the lawn, and the trunk is straight or inclined, or curved or curved, with different shapes. The lawn under the tree is like a carpet, which is a good place for tourists to rest and play. All kinds of bamboos in the bamboo path are in harmony with the lakes and mountains, forming a beautiful picture of garden beauty accompanied by bamboo stones; Palm Island is surrounded by lakes and green hills on three sides, with beautiful lakes and mountains, and the scenery is very unique. Deep in the coconut grove, there is a teahouse built in the form of a small Dai building, with a lotus leaf-shaped bridge next to it. When tourists have a tea break, they can quietly enjoy the scenery of palm grove. Hundreds of palm plants are scattered on hillsides and watersides, uneven and with different branches and leaves, which is a southern island scenery; The rose garden is a new scenic spot mainly composed of Rosaceae plants, decorated with sketches and paved with lawns. Chi Pan has an open-air music platform. The stage part is like rose petals, and the color is elegant. It is a unique architectural sketch in the botanical garden, expressing the theme of roses in a special garden. Roses, peaches, plums and other varieties of Rosaceae have some new ideas and feelings. I made a certain record of the planting and garden sketch design I saw. The picturesque scenery of the Botanical Garden is really inseparable from these excellent landscape designers. These designs seem simple, but in fact, after careful consideration, I admire them very much.

After that, I went to practice in the psammophyte area. The work here is relatively simple, just watering the administrators, collecting fallen seeds and reminding some tourists not to touch these psammophytes with their hands in the exhibition area. Manager Xiao Li told us that cactus and succulents are a kind of plant groups, and they are specialized water storage tissues of an organ, leaf, stem or root of a plant to adapt to the arid environment. Most of them are produced in tropical arid areas, and there are many kinds. They are exotic, not only ornamental, but also have economic uses such as food and medicine. Here, I got to know many cacti and succulents, many of which are very beautiful and special, including the "King of China Golden Lake" that impressed me deeply, the plants that look like wine bottles-Buddha's belly trees, cloth-wrapped plants-cloth balls, flowering stones-raw stone flowers, and plants that take root. Being an intern here really opened my eyes again.

Finally, I went to the tissue culture laboratory and learned some basic techniques of plant tissue culture and rapid propagation from Mr. Zhang, the person in charge of tissue culture. Compared with the design room, the tissue culture room is a smaller department, but there is also a lot of work here every day. I remember that when I was a freshman, we had taken a course in genetics and breeding, including the introduction of plant tissue culture technology. Simply put, based on the theory of cell totipotency, different culture conditions are provided in vitro according to the requirements of different plants and different parts, so the growth rate is fast and the growth cycle is short. The proliferation rate of tissue culture can reach millions of times a year, and a large number of high-quality seedlings with the same genotype and uniform specifications can be obtained at one time, which is beneficial to production and utilization. When I came to the tissue culture room, under the guidance of Mr. Zhang, I learned some instruments and equipment needed for tissue culture. However, Fan Wen. Com is the first stop to write samples for free! After that, I began to learn simple operation, and the main work was to prepare culture medium and inoculation. I have done tissue culture of small red maple, Anthurium andraeanum and orchid, and I have a great sense of accomplishment when I watch my grafted seedlings being sent to the culture room. Because the work is interesting and relaxed, the practice time in the tissue culture room passes quickly. Through the guidance of teacher Zhang, I have a deeper understanding of organizational training than before and have a strong interest. I heard that our major will also offer a course of plant tissue culture next semester, so I have the opportunity to continue studying tissue culture.

The short week of social practice soon ended. Here in Xiamen Botanical Garden, I learned a lot, which not only improved my professional knowledge to a certain extent, but also greatly exercised my practical ability, strengthened my ability to communicate with others, and got a certain degree of eloquence training. At the same time, I am also very grateful to the monitor of the introduction and domestication class, the chief engineer of the design room Zhou, the administrator of the desert plant area Xiao Li, the teacher Zhang who helped me in the tissue culture laboratory during my internship, and the employees of the Botanical Garden who helped me a lot here. In this place where I practiced for the first time in my life, I learned a lot and felt that I had grown up. Fortunately, all the people are very kind to me. This is a very meaningful practice. I think I can go back to school.
