East China University of Political Science and Law is located in Shanghai, China. It is an institution of higher learning jointly established by the central and local governments and a high-level local university in Shanghai. Member of four departments of the Fifth Academy, founding member of Asian Law Society, China-Japan Humanities Exchange University Alliance and Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance. It is a multi-disciplinary university with law as its main discipline and also with disciplines such as economy, management, literature and engineering.

The school was originally named East China University of Political Science and Law. 1In June, 952, the law departments, political departments and social departments of 9 universities including St. John's University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Soochow University, Xiamen University, Hujiang University, Anhui University, Shanghai College and Aurora University were merged and established in the former site of St. John's University. 1958, the school was merged into Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences; 1963 rebuilt, enrolled students the following year; 1966 to stop enrollment, 1972 to cancel enrollment; 1March, 979, with the approval of the State Council, the school resumed classes for the second time. In 2000, the school was placed under the management of Shanghai by the Ministry of Justice. In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed East China University of Political Science and Law.
