Extended data:

In the twenty-third year of Zhenguan, Li Shimin died. At the age of 22, Li Zhi acceded to the throne and renamed Tang Gaozong Yonghui. At the beginning of his accession to the throne, Emperor Gaozong followed his father's instruction, reused Sun Chang Wuji and Chu Suiliang, and transferred Li Ji back to the right assistant minister.

Although Gaozong was not clever, after years of training in Li Shimin, he gained some experience in governing the country. He knew that before his fledgling, stability was paramount, and anything that tried to provoke the contradiction between the monarch and his subjects must be stopped in time.

For example, if a blind man reports that Sun Chang Wuji intends to rebel, he does not conduct any investigation and orders the informer to be executed. Compared with Li Shimin, the comprehensive ability of Emperor Gaozong was obviously worse.

Fortunately, he has self-knowledge, believes that diligence can make up for the shortcomings, and hopes to narrow the gap with his father by his own efforts. In the middle and late period of Zhenguan, Li Shimin usually met with officials every three days to deal with daily affairs. However, for fear of the backlog, Gao Zong insisted on going to court every day.
