On the evening of February 6, 2009, China's National Standardization Administration issued a statement on the standard of electric motorcycles. The new national standard "General Technical Requirements for Electric Motorcycles and Electric Mopeds" stipulates that "electric bicycles with a speed of more than 20 kilometers per hour and more than 40 kilograms are called electric mopeds or electric motorcycles and classified as motor vehicles". This regulation will take effect on 20 10 1+0.
This means that if this national standard is implemented, riding an electric car may have to go through a series of procedures such as driving test, licensing and insurance. The person in charge of the State Quality Supervision Bureau said that the new national standard for electric vehicles is not mandatory.
