Basic definition of masonry gravity dam;
Solid gravity dam is a gravity dam built with concrete or masonry without wide joints and cavities.
Scope of application of solid gravity dam:
1. According to the different structures, it can be divided into solid gravity dam, wide joint gravity dam and hollow gravity dam.
2. According to different functions, it can be divided into overflow gravity dam and non-overflow gravity dam.
3. According to different dam materials, it can be divided into concrete gravity dam and masonry gravity dam.
Advantages and disadvantages of solid gravity dam:
1. Advantages
Gravity dam is widely used because it has the following advantages:
(1) is relatively safe and reliable, with good durability and strong resistance to leakage, flood, earthquake and war damage;
(2) The design and construction technology are simple and easy to be mechanized;
③ It has strong adaptability to different terrain and geological conditions, and gravity dams can be built in valleys of any shape, with relatively low requirements for foundation conditions;
④ Water diversion and drainage holes can be arranged in the dam body to solve the problems of power generation, flood discharge and construction diversion.
2. Deficiencies
The disadvantages of gravity dams are:
(1) The stress of dam body is low, and the material strength cannot be fully exerted;
(2) The dam is large and consumes a lot of cement;
(3) During the construction period, the temperature stress and shrinkage stress of concrete are large, which requires higher temperature control.
