Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway starts from Shanghai in the east and reaches the capital in the west. From east to west, it passes through Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing and Sichuan provinces and 20 cities. It traverses China from east to west, with a total length of 1966 km. Shanghai-Chengdu expressway is an important part of the "five vertical and seven horizontal" national trunk highway network planned by the state. The planned route consists of Shanghai-Hefei section of Shanghai-Chengdu line, Wanzhou-Chengdu section of branch line, Hefei-Lu 'an section of national key highway Shanghai-Wuwei line, Lu 'an-Wuhan section of branch line and Wuhan-Wanzhou section of Hanglan line. Shanghai-Chengdu Shanghai-Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou-Zhenjiang-Nanjing-Hefei-Lu 'an-Jinzhai-Macheng-Wuhan-Xiaogan-Jingmen-Yichang-Fengjie-Yunyang-Wanzhou-Liangping-Dazhu-Nanchong-Suining-Chengdu.
