What does big data mean? How to explain it?

Big data, or huge amount of data, refers to the information that involves so much data that mainstream software tools can't capture, manage, process and sort it out at present, so as to help enterprises make more active business decisions within a reasonable time. (In The Age of Big Data, co-authored by Victor Meyer-Schoenberg and Kenneth Cookeye, big data refers to the method of using all data without the shortcut of random analysis (sampling survey). The 4V characteristics of big data are: volume (mass), speed (high speed), diversity (diversity) and authenticity (authenticity). Big data needs special technologies, including large-scale parallel processing (MPP) database, data mining power grid, distributed file system, distributed database, cloud computing platform, Internet and scalable storage system.

The four "V's" or features of big data have four levels: First, the amount of data is huge. Jump from TB level to PB level; Second, there are many data types. The aforementioned blogs, videos, pictures, geographic information and so on. Third, the data source directly leads to the accuracy and authenticity of the analysis results. If the data source is complete and true, the final analysis results and decisions will be more accurate. Fourth, the processing speed is fast, 1 second law. This last point is also fundamentally different from the traditional data mining technology. It is classified as four "V" in the industry.

To some extent, big data is the cutting-edge technology of data analysis. In short, the ability to quickly obtain valuable information from all kinds of data is big data technology. It is important to understand this point, and it is this point that makes this technology have the potential to go to many enterprises.
