Songshi inkstones began in the Ming Dynasty, although there was no title of Songhua inkstones at that time.

"Xiqing inkstone spectrum" records: "It was born in the east, mixed with jasper, Derby jade and Wenrun inkstone, and entered the Imperial Classics." It is called "the end of the product". Emperor Kangxi, the ancestor of the Qing Dynasty, wrote an inscription for Songhua inkstone, saying, "Life is ancient and moist, color is green and sound is clear, and ink is beneficial, so it is also valuable." Emperor Qianlong praised him even more, saying, "The king of Songhua is pure green in color, delicate and moist, and can be used as inkstone material. The ink is the same as that of Duan Xi, and the product is right in the pit." In the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Jun wrote the book Gezhi Mirror Source, saying: "Pine stone inkstone is moist as jade, green and flawless, firm and fine in quality, tender and pure in color, slippery but not resistant to ink, astringent and not stagnant, which can make pine smoke shine and add luster to every detail. In the past, people said that the strangeness of the ink stone was all combined, and they asked it to transcend the ages. " Thus, Song Yanmo made of pine flowers has excellent ink-making performance.

Songhua inkstone is mainly green and is often cut because of its brush texture. In addition, turquoise also has yellow, white, purple, black and other colors. Yellow is often used to prepare stone boxes, and purple can be used to make inkstone boxes. The mouth of the Songshi quarry extends along the Changbai Mountain in Antu, Tonghua, Jilin and Benxi, Liaoning, and its old mouth in Qing Dynasty is located in Liangjiang Town, Antu.

Qiyang Shiyan

The inkstone carved from Qiyang produced in Qiyang is called Qiyang inkstone or Qiyang inkstone. Qiyang Stone belongs to clayey slate, which is fine in texture, smooth and thick, moist and delicate. It is suitable for making inkstones and is one of the best inkstones in China. Qiyang stone is produced in Qiyang County, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province, and occurs in the Lower Ordovician strata.
