Type of transportation agent:
(1) chartering agent. Also known as a ship broker, it refers to a person who takes ships as the object of commercial activities and engages in ship leasing business. His main business is to find a suitable transport ship for the lessee or a freight object for the shipowner in the market, and to make the lessee and the shipowner reach a lease transaction as an intermediary to earn commissions from it. Therefore, according to the different identities of customers they represent, they can be divided into chartering agents and shipowners' agents.
(2) Shipping agents. Refers to the person entrusted by the carrier to handle all business related to the ship, mainly including the entry and exit of the ship, cargo transportation, supply and other services. The entrustment of the ship and the acceptance of the agent are limited to once per ship, which is called voyage agency; There is a long-term agency agreement between the ship and the agent, which is called long-term agency.
(3) Freight forwarders. Refers to the personnel entrusted by the consignor to handle customs declaration, handover, warehousing, distribution, inspection, packaging, transshipment and booking on behalf of the consignor, mainly including booking agents, cargo handling agents, cargo declaration agents, forwarding agents, tally agents, warehousing agents and container agents.
(4) Consulting agent: refers to a person who specializes in consulting work, provides international trade and transportation, intelligence, data, materials and information services according to the needs of the client, and receives certain remuneration. The business between the above-mentioned agents is often intertwined. For example, many shipping agents also run freight forwarders, and some freight forwarders also run shipping agents.
