The full name of CMMI is capability maturity model integration, that is, capability maturity model integration (also called software capability maturity integration model), which is an idea of the US Department of Defense.
1994 was jointly developed by the US Department of Defense, the Software Engineering Research Center under Carnegie Mellon University and the American Defense Industry Association. They plan to integrate all the existing and upcoming competency maturity models into a framework, and the prerequisite for applying for this certification is that the enterprise has a valid software enterprise certification certificate.
The success of CMMI has prompted other disciplines to develop similar process improvement models, such as systems engineering, requirements engineering, human resources, integrated product development, software procurement and so on. Some improved models are derived from CMM, such as SW-CMM, SE-CMM and IPD-CMM.
However, the existence of multiple process improvement models in the same organization may cause conflicts and confusion. What CMMI needs to solve is how to keep the coordination between these modes.
CMMI 1.3 is the latest version of CMMI model released by SEI in 10. CMMI 1.3 includes CMMI procurement mode 1.3, CMMI development mode 1.3 and CMMI service mode 1.3.
