There are also many awards from more than 20 countries, such as the National Medal, the United Nations Peace Prize, the Simon wiesenthal Center National Tolerance Award and the Rosa parks Humanitarian Award.
Daisaku Ikeda is the fifth son in his family. He lives by raising seaweed. In the1940s when Japan participated in the Second World War, Mr. Ikeda was a teenager in his teens. The militaristic atrocities he personally experienced, the trembling brought by the war and the unspeakable pain were deeply engraved in his heart. This has also become the driving force for its peaceful rights protection center in the future. Moreover, influenced by militarism and nationalism education at that time, it also formed the basis of his educational view. For the Japanese military government, education has become a means to turn children into obedient models in order to achieve the country and its military goals. Whether it is good or bad, education has a profound impact on young people's horizons and future, and Mr. Ikeda has a deep understanding of this.
After the war, great changes have taken place in Japanese society and values. Mr. Ikeda wrote: "What was blinded by the strange values instilled in wartime was exposed to the broad daylight of day and night and collapsed."
At this time, 19-year-old Mr Ikeda met his mentor, Seiji Toda (1900- 1958). Mr. Toda is a famous educator and Buddhist philosopher. He was once put in prison for openly opposing the militaristic government. Facing the indomitable spirit of justice, human personality and profound knowledge, he deeply admired Mr. Ikeda, and vowed to do his best as a disciple of Mr. Toda for the happiness and peace of everyone in the world.
Mr Ikeda, who has read countless books and is twice as eager for knowledge as others, works in the company run by Mr Toda during the day and goes to school at night. However, due to the economic downturn in Japan after World War II, Mr. Ikeda's career was facing a crisis, and almost all employees resigned and left. Only Mr Ikeda stayed and continued to help Mr Ikeda rebuild the company, so Mr Ikeda had to give up studying at night university. However, Hu tian teacher gave Ikeda a one-on-one all-round university-level education. This education lasted for 10 years until Mr. Hatta died. Mr. Hu Tian, a wise educator, became a personal professor with a wide range of subjects, including politics, economy, history and geography, as well as mathematics, physics, chemistry and astronomy. "98% of the knowledge I have now is taught by tian teacher." Mr Ikeda also called Mr. Toda's personal education "Toda University". After that, Mr Ikeda graduated from Fuji Short-Term University (now Fuji University in Tokyo).
1958 Mr. Hata passed away. As his successor, Mr Ikeda devoted himself to promoting peace and human happiness, and conducted extensive dialogue activities around the world. The center of the activity is to cross the differences of countries, nationalities, religions and ideologies, as a bridge of world civilization, with the goal of exploring feasible solutions to problems all over the world, and to carry out dialogue with the attitude of humanists to promote mutual understanding. Through the non-governmental diplomatic activities in the 1970s, a friendship bridge for the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations was built, and the political tension between China and the Soviet Union was effectively alleviated.
In the past 50 years, Mr Ikeda has had more than 65,438+0,600 dialogues with people of insight in the fields of politics, education, academics, science, peace operations, industry and art, of which more than 50 dialogues have been published as dialogue collections. For example, British historian Toynbee, former Soviet President Gorbachev, China writer Jin Yong, Norwegian "father of peace" GoldSi Tong, American futurist Henderson, Nobel Peace Prize winner, peace activist Pauline and Rotblat. In particular, Outlook 2 1 Century, a collection of conversations with Dr. Toynbee, has been translated into 27 languages and published, which has been favored by people all over the world.
Besides dialogues, Mr Ikeda has published more than 65,438,000 books on philosophy, critical articles and children's literature. As a famous poet, he was awarded the title of Poet Laureate by the World Art and Culture Association (198 1), the World Poetry Association (1995) and the People's Poet of the World (2007).
In addition, up to now, at the invitation of many well-known overseas higher education institutions, 32 lectures have been given in 28 academic institutions including Moscow University, Peking University and Harvard University.
In such a wide range of activities, Mr Ikeda's greatest contribution is education. He said, "Education is the ultimate career of my life". Adhering to this belief, through the publication of "Education Proposal" and other publications, we actively expound education and its importance, hope that students will grow up happily and constantly encourage and spur them.
