Meade was born in Cadiz, Spain, the son of the US Navy Governor. He was educated in the United States and graduated from the United States Army Academy. After fighting the Minor Indians in Florida, he resigned from the army and became a construction engineer. 1842 returned to the army as a topographic survey engineer. He also served in the Mexican War.
the Civil War
At the beginning of the Civil War, Meade was a brigadier general of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. After the civil war, he was the commander of various military departments. George g fort meade, the U.S army base, and Meade county in Kansas and Meade county in south Dakota are all named after george meade.
