Shanghai Baoxing Funeral Home was founded in the 34th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1908) and has a history of 98 years. This is one of the oldest funeral homes in China. Baoxing Funeral Home was formerly a crematorium built by Japan Faguang Co., Ltd. In the 13th year of the Republic of China (1924), the facilities of the crematorium were gradually improved, and a Japanese temple funeral home was built. After the Japanese invasion of China broke out, the number of Japanese in Shanghai increased and the scale of crematoria expanded. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the crematorium was taken over by the War Crimes Management Office of the Kuomintang government. 1949 after the liberation of Shanghai, the people's government took over the crematorium and became a place for the public to hold funerals, which formed the embryonic form of the funeral home. 1950 crematorium was named as "Xibaoxing Road Crematorium", and 1984 was officially renamed as "Shanghai Baoxing Funeral Home", which has been in use ever since.

This ancient funeral home undertakes nearly 50% of the funeral and cremation business in the central city, and handles more than 20,000 bodies every year. Now it has become a first-class comprehensive large-scale funeral place in China. Its distinctive feature is that it looks like a park from a distance and looks like a hotel when you walk in.
