The pathogen is Nocardia stellata. The symptoms of this disease can be divided into two types: trunk nodule type and branchial nodule type. Trunk nodular type is mainly characterized by ulceration of subcutaneous adipose tissue and muscle of trunk, forming irregular and white raised boils, and discharging white reddish pus from the boils after incision. The heart, spleen, kidney, swim bladder and other internal organs also have white nodules. Branchial nodules form milky white nodules at the base of gill filaments, which leads to disorder of gill circulation and pallor of gill filaments. Nocardia exists in fresh water and soil. Pathogens in the environment can infect fish, and rainbow trout carrying pathogens can infect other healthy fish.
