Guilin University of Electronic Technology, referred to as "Guidian", is located in Guilin, a world-famous scenic city. Established by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, it was selected as the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan".
New engineering research and practice projects, key universities in the central and western universities' basic capacity-building projects, public postgraduate projects of state-built high-level universities selected as the first batch of scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases in colleges and universities, China People's Liberation Army reserve officer selection and training base, national college students' innovation experiment plan, and national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform.
The national college students' cultural quality education base and Guangxi first-class discipline construction university are the only universities in Guangxi with key national defense majors. It is one of the 30 universities released by the communication equipment pre-research project of the General Armament Department and one of the universities authorized by Beidou ICD.
The school was founded on 1960. 1980 Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology was established with the approval of the State Council. In 2006, it was renamed Guilin University of Electronic Technology. The school belongs to Fourth Ministry of machinery industry, Ministry of Electronics Industry, Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industry, China Electronic Industry Corporation and Ministry of Information Industry. In 2000, the management system was changed to a combination of central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay.
As of March 2023, the school has Jinjiling Campus, Liouhe Road Campus, Huajiang Campus and Beihai Campus, with a total campus area of 4 153 mu, with more than 2 19000 paper books and 2.82 million electronic books.
