Guangzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College (hereinafter referred to as the school) was formerly Guangzhou Railway Machinery School of the former Ministry of Railways, and was established on May 22nd. 1974. In June 2000, with the approval of Guangdong Provincial People's Government, Guangzhou Railway Machinery School, Guangzhou Railway Transport Workers College and Guangzhou Railway Adult Secondary Vocational School were merged and upgraded to full-time public higher vocational colleges. In September 2004, the school was handed over to Guangzhou Municipal People's Government by Guangzhou Railway (Group) Company (now China Railway Guangzhou Bureau Group Co., Ltd.).
The school is now a national "double high plan" construction unit, a national demonstration (backbone) vocational college, a national high-quality vocational college, a demonstration vocational college in Guangdong Province, and a first-class vocational college in Guangdong Province. It is the only rail transit vocational college in Guangdong Province and an important base for staff training of rail transit enterprises in South China. It has successively won the honorary title of "National Vocational College Employment Competitiveness Demonstration School".
