Hetian jade, generally given to family members, can be identified from the following aspects:
1. Test its hardness with a knife. The Mohs hardness of Hetian jade reaches about 6.5. Generally, if you cut with a knife, there will be no trace. If it is glass and jade with low hardness, it will leave traces, but now many imitations also choose some jade with high hardness, which will also leave no traces.
2. Look at the color of Hetian jade. Hetian jade has only four colors: white, blue, ink and yellow. It is said to be red, but I have never seen it, so if I meet red Hetian jade, the designation is false. The color of white is from white to bluish white, yellow is from light yellow to dark yellow (including sugar), cyan is from light cyan to dark cyan, and ink is from ink to light black.
3. Hotan jade with suet color and yellow color is of high value. Sheep fat jade is delicate in texture and as white as coagulated fat. It is the best variety of white hetian jade. Only Xinjiang has it in the world, and its output is scarce and extremely precious.
4. Observe whether it is translucent. There are three kinds of jade: transparent, translucent and opaque, and Hetian jade is translucent. In the light, it can transmit light, but it can't see the transmitted object clearly. You can aim the jade at the light source and shake it behind the jade with your hands. Really, Hetian jade can see that there are shadows shaking.
5. From the sound point of view, Hetian jade is thick and moist in texture and firm in pulse, and its sound is crisp and loud when it is knocked. You can knock two pieces of the same jade several times.
6. Weigh by hand. When buying, you can weigh the same volume of jade by hand. Hetian jade is heavier, firmer and thicker, generally heavier than other jade.
