1908, Zhang, the first president of the Chinese Geographical Society, proposed "Huaishui in Beiling" as the "north-south dividing line" for the first time from the perspective of geographical division. At that time, Beiling, corresponding to Nanling, is now the Qinling Mountains. However, Zhang's idea of dividing north and south by "Qinling-Huaihe River" is difficult to realize in practice.
Therefore, in 20 10, Professor Quangong Chen of Lanzhou University and others completed the distribution map of the north-south boundary zone of China based on the digital evaluation of GIS, and gave the quantitative and positioning results of the north-south boundary zone of China for the first time.
China's north-south border has comprehensive natural and cultural attributes, and it is banded, involving 7 provinces 130 counties (cities), with a total area of about 145500.74 square kilometers. On the north-south dividing line of China, the line connecting the midpoint of each segment along the longitude is called the north-south dividing line.
