Li's scientific achievements

Academician Li, as a scholar, is always tireless and actively exploring in scientific research. As she said, we should constantly learn from ourselves, constantly update our knowledge and keep up with the times ideologically. She did the same thing. Starting from 1959, she participated in the establishment of the first ophthalmology biochemical laboratory of Sun Yat-sen Medical College, and began to analyze the chemical composition of China lens.

In order to improve the quality of cataract surgery, Academician Li actively participated in the technology introduction and innovation of cataract surgery. In the late 1970s, she personally led professionals and graduate students to actively carry out cataract intraocular lens implantation, and conducted a series of innovative research on posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation, which achieved remarkable results: they pioneered the treatment of corneal astigmatism after modern extracapsular extraction with Nd: YAG laser disconnection; To establish comprehensive methods to prevent and treat corneal astigmatism after extracapsular extraction and intraocular lens implantation, such as selecting improved scleral incision, adjusting suture during operation, keratectomy during or after operation, and selective detachment after operation, so as to make patients recover their vision better. Broaden the indications of intraocular lens implantation, carry out intraocular lens implantation under complicated conditions such as high myopia, anti-glaucoma surgery, uveitis, diabetes complicated with cataract, continuously improve the surgical incision and method, and small incision phacoemulsification and foldable intraocular lens implantation to speed up wound healing and significantly improve naked eye vision; She took the lead in reporting the results of outpatient intraocular lens implantation in China to solve the problems of hospitalization and economic burden for patients; She also took the lead in the second stage of intraocular lens implantation, which created conditions for restoring binocular monocular and stereoscopic vision.

In scientific research, she pays attention to the latest research trends of her major, and strives to combine the advanced nature, scientificity and clinic of the subject from reality in determining the research direction, topic selection, experimental design, experimental operation, experimental result processing and paper writing, so she is in a leading position in domestic scientific research. For example, first, she and her colleagues cooperated with the National Eye Institute of the United States to systematically study the main crystallins and their subunits from embryo to old age for the first time. By analyzing the content of γ -crystallin in clear lens and cataract lens, it was found for the first time that the subunit of γ -crystallin in human clear lens changed with age, but its total amount in cataract lens was constant and showed a downward trend. It is found that the content of embryonic γ crystal protein contains glycosyl, and it is the first time to report that the non-enzymatic glycosyl groups of embryonic γ2 and γ3 crystal proteins are different. It is suggested that the decrease of total γ -crystallin and the change of subunit are related to the formation of cataract. Secondly, the pathogenesis of cataract is further clarified, and it is found that the over-expression of apoptosis gene in lens epithelial cells is the homomolecular basis of various senile cataracts. Thirdly, in the treatment and prevention of cataract, it was found that rhododendron A and baicalin could inhibit crystalline aldose reductase, which made a beneficial exploration for the treatment of sugar cataract. The study on prevention and treatment of after cataract found that homoharringtonine and harmaline could not only inhibit the proliferation of lens epithelial cells cultured in vitro, but also inhibit the proliferation of lens epithelial cells after extracapsular extraction in rabbits. It is found that stimulating or inducing apoptosis of lens epithelial cells is of great significance for the prevention and treatment of after cataract. In order to explore an effective method to inhibit the proliferation of lens epithelial cells, we first studied the molecular mechanism of its cycle regulation, blocked the cycle process of lens epithelial cells by antisense nucleic acid technology, and explored the possibility of preventing after cataract.

In addition, Academician Li personally participated in and guided the experimental study of ocular immunity, and achieved remarkable results in the study of the pathogenesis of uveitis. In recent years, its research work has been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, the Doctoral Program Fund of the State Education Commission, the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Commission, the Ministry of Health, the US NEI and HKI, and has achieved outstanding results. The Research on Cataract Prevention and Treatment she presided over won the third prize of 1996 National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the second prize of 1995 Ministry of Health Science and Technology Progress Award (the first author); "Experimental Study on the Pathogenesis of Uveitis" won the third prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award (second author) 1998 and the second prize of Ministry of Health Science and Technology Progress Award (second author)1997; "Study on Natural Evolution and Control of Corneal Astigmatism Caused by Intraocular Lens Surgery" won the second prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award of the State Education Commission 1995 (second author). Ophthalmic Surgery, edited by her, won the second prize of the Ministry of Health for scientific and technological progress 1999. She has published 150 papers. Since 1950s, Academician Li has been working with professors to prevent blindness in rural areas. For decades, she has traveled all over the industrial, mining and rural areas of South Guangdong. Academician Li deeply realized in his long-term practical work that no matter how high his level and working ability are, even if he works day and night, he can't meet the needs of many blind people. Since he was young, Academician Li has had an eternal dream-to establish a national key teaching base for training senior ophthalmologists and researchers, and to train a large number of ophthalmologists from all over the country. For this ideal, together with her predecessors, she devoted a lot of energy and enthusiasm all her life.

China actively promotes new technologies, and the research results of Academician Li have important clinical guidance and theoretical significance. She presided over all kinds of cataract intraocular lens implantation and phacoemulsification, trained nearly 1,000 ophthalmologists from 23 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and Macau, and promoted the popularization and improvement of intraocular lens implantation in China. As the person in charge of the cataract prevention and treatment project, he cooperated with the National Ophthalmology Institute of the United States and the International Society for the Prevention of Blindness (HKI) to demonstrate and promote intraocular lens surgery in rural areas, set up five cataract surgery prevention and treatment bases in Guangdong, and conducted research on the efficacy and quality of life of rural cataract patients to find out the reasons and countermeasures that affect the quality and quantity of cataract surgery in rural areas in China. She actively participated in the international cooperative research on prevention and treatment of blindness, and was the only consultant of Helen Keller Association in China. Because of her outstanding achievements in cataract work, 1996 began to be entrusted by the Ministry of Health to preside over the popularization of cataract surgery prevention and treatment technology in grassroots and rural areas for a hundred years. Inspired by the noble medical ethics and diligent academic spirit of the older generation of well-known experts such as Professor Chen, the founder of modern ophthalmology in China, Academician Li has worked hard in the front line of clinical medical treatment for more than 40 years, and has been well received by eye patients with superb diagnosis and treatment technology, warm and thoughtful service and good medical ethics. 1966 she responded to the call of the party and went to the countryside of Fengkai County, Guangdong Province to engage in medical work. She worked as an ophthalmologist in commune hospitals and county hospitals for more than three years. Her medical skills are brilliant, and many patients come from Guangxi to find her for treatment and eye surgery. At that time, the countryside was short of doctors and medicines. Under very difficult conditions, she and her colleagues developed Chinese herbal medicines and treated patients with intravenous injection of glucose. Academician Li has been engaged in ophthalmology since he was young. Clinically, she worked hard to be on duty more, practiced the basic skills of surgery, and made 24-hour intraocular pressure measurement and aqueous humor vein observation in the dark. She did it herself. Whether as an operator or an assistant, she is very enthusiastic. Every time she washes her hands before the operation, she takes time to make a "movie" in her mind, telling every step of the operation and the possible complications during the operation. Although these operations have been done many times, she feels that you are responsible for the patient's eyes, and the operation must be done as well as possible to reduce complications. After repeated experience accumulation and technical improvement, the patient's postoperative vision recovered well.

Academician Li is sincere and enthusiastic about it. She treats patients equally, whether they are ordinary farmers or senior leading cadres, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese, and does everything possible to alleviate their suffering and let them see the light again. As she grew older, she still insisted on making rounds for surgery and organizing discussions on difficult cases. Because of her excellent service in medical work, she was praised by the masses and leaders. 1994 was rated as a Bethune medical worker in Guangdong province. 1999 was awarded the certificate of health worker by the central health care commission.
