Jia has always wanted to make a film about the life of industrial workers set in a factory. To this end, he visited Taiyuan Iron and Steel Plant and Beijing Shougang successively. At the beginning of last year, he happened to come to Chengdu and saw the 420 factory that was about to be demolished. He felt that the temperament of the city and the atmosphere of the factory were very consistent with his ideas, so he came up with the idea of shooting A Story of Twenty-four Cities. However, Jia said that in his life resume, there is little intersection with the factory and he is not familiar with the lives of workers. And the film left Shanxi, which he was familiar with, and came to Chengdu, which he didn't know much about. Therefore, he decided to conduct a long-term field interview.
From May last year to 65438+February, Jia visited Chengdu for many times. At that time, the "420 Factory Memory Narrators Collection" jointly sponsored by this newspaper and the crew also contributed a lot of wonderful materials to "Twenty-four Cities". In the process, Jia personally interviewed more than 30 narrators, together with other materials collected by the crew, and finally compiled into 400,000 words of interview notes. These solid materials provided a lot of inspiration for later script creation. Jia also said excitedly for many times that these people and these stories made him have too many unexpected surprises.
