The Origin of Place Names in Yingkou City
Yingkou City is located at the mouth of Daliaohe River. During the reign of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty, the court allowed Mongolian Hu Ba people to graze here. Hu Ba's shacks are linked together, which looks like a military camp from a distance. People call this area "camp". Therefore, the tidal ditch dries up at low tide and there is no ditch at high tide, hence the name "no ditch camp".
"Yingkou" is the abbreviation of "Wugou Yinggang" in the official documents of the government in the early Qing Dynasty. In the fifth year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1866), the Qing government set up Jin Feng Shanhaiguan Road in Yingkou, which was responsible for foreign affairs and taxation of the whole Liaodong area from Shanhaiguan in the west to the mouth of Yalu River in the east. In the sixth year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty, the Qing government added Yingkou Tongzhi Hall to manage the public security in coastal areas, which was the first official institution named after the word "Yingkou".
