Architectural history
On September 8, 2003, the extension project of Xijiang Bridge in Zhaoqing officially started, with a total length of 5.128km. It starts from the west side of Zhaoqing Technical School on National Highway 32/KLOC-0 in the north, passes through Jiaoyuan Village, Fenghua Road and Duanzhou Road, crosses the Xijiang River in parallel with the old Xijiang Bridge, and ends at the toll station of Xijiang Bridge on the south bank street of Gaoyao City (now Gaoyao District). The whole line is designed according to the technical standards of the second-class highway in plain and hilly areas. The expansion project consists of three parts: main bridge, approach bridge and approach road. The main bridge is 812.48m long, the approach bridge is 756.33m long and the approach length is 3.613km. The total project cost is 654.38+79.3 million yuan. After the expansion, the total width of the bridge reaches 27.5 meters, with four lanes in both directions. In order to ensure the quality and safety of the bridge deck, a new material epoxy resin is laid on the bridge deck. After the completion and opening to traffic, the Xijiang Bridge, which has been heavily loaded with traffic, will be effectively decompressed, and a regional central city with a population of one million, which is most suitable for tourism, human settlement and entrepreneurship, will rise rapidly.

Building structure
The total length of Xijiang Bridge is1631.49m, and the total length of highway bridge is1595.78m.. The pavement of pier 0-02 of the main bridge and the north bank approach bridge is located on the upper floor, with a clear width of 9 meters, and sidewalks with a width of 1 meter on both sides. The railway is located on the lower floor, single track. Non-motorized vehicle lanes with a width of 3 meters are set on the two outer sides of the railway pavement of the main bridge, and the non-motorized vehicle lanes on the south bank adopt ordinary reinforced concrete beams with a span of 10 meters, T-shaped structure and approach roads. There are two towers on both sides of the bridge head of the main bridge on the north shore for pedestrians to get on and off, and at the same time, a rectangular track and a circular track are built to the ground for non-motor vehicles to get on and off. Many advanced technologies and methods have been adopted in the construction of this project.
The steel beams of this bridge are composed of 5× 140.5m steel truss continuous beams, which are connected by riveting. There are ***34 holes in the whole bridge, among which the third and fourth holes of steel beams are navigable bridge holes.
