As a platform for information integration, processing and analysis, geographic information system has played an important role in navigation discipline and application. Geographic Information System (GIS) has become the core supporting technology of major scientific research and application projects such as electronic charts, traffic informatization, ship simulation, safety and rescue. In 2007, according to the requirements of industry development, the Ministry of Communications officially approved the establishment of GIS specialty.
This major has a four-year academic system and recruits boys with good ideological and political quality, strong organizational discipline, love of transportation, navigation and information technology, and learning English. The main professional basic courses and specialized courses of GIS are: GIS, remote sensing principle and application, GPS principle and application, surveying, electronic chart system, navigation, nautical meteorology and oceanography, maritime management, secondary development of GIS, remote sensing image processing and analysis, spatial analysis, database principle and application, VTS and AIS principle and application, GIS and remote sensing practice.
Qualified graduates of this major should be able to engage in scientific research or education in scientific research institutions or institutions of higher learning, and be able to engage in practical work related to geographic information system, such as applied research, technology development and administrative management. In the fields of transportation, navigation, port management, maritime management, logistics, surveying and mapping, marine and environmental monitoring, planning and management.
