1. Introduction:

In order to meet the needs of the rapid development of China's non-ferrous metal materials industry, the comprehensive research and development and technological innovation capabilities of new materials, new processes and new equipment in the processing field of non-ferrous metals (especially copper, aluminum, magnesium, lead, zinc and other bulk non-ferrous metals) in China are improved, and at the same time, a sound scientific research system is formed around the "mining, selection, smelting and processing" industrial chain of Chinalco to improve the overall research and development capabilities of the group company. Luoyang Nonferrous Metals Processing Design and Research Institute, Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd., Central South University and Northwest Nonferrous Metals Research Institute jointly initiated the establishment of Suzhou Nonferrous Metals Processing Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as Suzhou Institute). The above units basically represent the highest level of production, learning, research and design of non-ferrous metal materials and processing equipment in China at present. Through system innovation and making use of their respective advantages in technology, management and talents, we will strive to build our institute into an R&D and industrialization institution of nonferrous metal processing technology and equipment with excellent performance and international reputation in about 5 ~ 10 years. When the time is ripe, we will strive to establish the "National Research Center for Copper and Aluminum Processing Engineering" based on our institute.

Suzhou Institute is located in Suzhou Singapore Industrial Park, covering an area of 8 hectares, with a registered capital of 50 million yuan and an initial investment of 75 million yuan, which is mainly used for the construction of land, buildings and experimental equipment. The Institute is composed of research institutions such as materials, mechatronics, information, heat energy, testing, pilot test, etc. In the past two years, it plans to prepare 200 people, plus an indefinite number of visiting researchers. It is estimated that 60 people will be in place by the end of 2004 and 100 people will be added before the end of 2005. Suzhou Institute will be headed by Zhou Lian, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of China Nonferrous Metal Materials Association, and Zhong Jue, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in non-ferrous metallurgical equipment, will be the chief researcher. All joint ventures and cooperative units have sent scientific research backbones and recruited some social experts. With the support and cooperation of China Aluminum Company, Suzhou Municipal Government, the leaders of the Park Management Committee and relevant departments, after nearly two years' efforts, Suzhou Institute has successfully completed the preliminary work such as industrial and commercial registration, planning and design, construction of15,000m2 main building and ancillary facilities, and ordering of key and general experimental equipment and detection and analysis instruments. It is expected to be put into operation in early September 2004.

2. Main departments:

Materials Research Institute: Facing the national strategy and the demand of enterprises for new colored materials, it conducts research on the relationship between material composition, microstructure, processing and heat treatment technology and physical and chemical properties of materials, and provides complete sets of industrialized technologies such as process regulations, mathematical models, process parameters and process methods for material production enterprises.

Electromechanical Institute: Cooperate with the research and development process of new materials, and provide complete sets of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment for the pressure processing process for material production enterprises. At the same time, it provides the old enterprises with the optimization and upgrading services of the original non-ferrous metal processing equipment and its supporting automatic control system.

Information Engineering Research Institute: Based on the technological regulations and mathematical models of pressure machining, it provides process automation technologies such as parameter setting calculation results and adaptive and self-learning models for the process control of electromechanical research institute. At the same time, combined with the needs of production enterprises, the management services of enterprise three-level (production plan management) and four-level (enterprise comprehensive resource management) information systems are completed.

Research Institute of Thermal Energy and Environmental Protection: provides complete sets of technology and equipment for the production and environmental protection processes of smelting, casting and rolling, heating, heat treatment, flue gas treatment and waste liquid treatment of non-ferrous processing enterprises.

Material testing center: using advanced testing and analysis equipment, it provides testing and analysis services for the composition, organization and performance of materials and the research and development of electromechanical equipment. At the same time, it can provide related services for all walks of life.

Pilot workshop: cooperate with the research and development of new materials and their processing equipment, provide productive intermediate test means, explore and summarize reasonable process regulations, mathematical models, process parameters and process methods. At the same time, it can produce small quantities of special non-ferrous metal materials that are difficult to process in all walks of life.
