The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Shenyang Pharmaceutical University was founded in 1985, and its predecessor was the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Shenyang Pharmaceutical University. The college now has departments of natural medicine and Chinese medicine. The Department of Natural Medicine consists of Natural Medicine Teaching and Research Section and Food Pharmacy Teaching and Research Section. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine consists of crude drug teaching and research section, traditional Chinese medicine analysis and identification teaching and research section and medicinal plants teaching and research section. The college also has a student experiment center, a Chinese medicine herbarium, a medicinal botanical garden and an analysis demonstration laboratory built by R&F Company.
The college has two tertiary laboratories, namely, Chemistry and Quality Control of Traditional Chinese Medicine in state administration of traditional chinese medicine, Modern Engineering Technology Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Liaoning Province, Key Laboratory of Innovative Drug Research and Design in Liaoning Province, Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Resource Research and Development in Liaoning Province, and Engineering Technology Center of Natural Drug Extraction and Separation and Industrial Preparation in Liaoning Province. There is also a Chinese patent medicine analysis laboratory established by Shenyang Pharmaceutical University in cooperation with Hokkaido Pharmaceutical University in Japan, and a Chinese-Korean molecular pharmacognosy laboratory established by Shenyang Pharmaceutical University in cooperation with East Asia University in Korea.
The college has two first-class disciplines, pharmacy and traditional Chinese medicine, ten doctoral programs in two disciplines and post-doctoral mobile stations in pharmacy. Medicinal chemistry (natural medicinal chemistry), pharmacognosy and traditional Chinese medicine are all provincial key disciplines. Natural medicinal chemistry was rated as a national excellent course, pharmacognosy and spectral analysis of pharmaceutical organic compounds as a provincial excellent course, and Chinese patent medicine analysis as a school-level excellent course.
