The first aspect, occupational diagnosis-are you suitable for your present job?
We can look at this problem from the perspective of human resource allocation. Whether a person is suitable for the present job mainly depends on whether the person and the post match.
This matching is mainly based on the job requirements of the post, that is, whether your personal characteristics are suitable for this job. So what is a personal trait? It is a person's way of thinking, behavior habits, good ability and other externally visible characteristics. For example, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei are both five tiger generals of Liu Bei, and they are both capable people with outstanding military achievements. But Guan Yu is "arrogant" and Zhang Fei is "arrogant". Generally speaking, Guan Yu looks down on the people and colleagues above and is arrogant, while Zhang Fei likes to bully and scold his subordinates, which is rude. As a result, everyone knows that Guan Yu lost Jingzhou because he despises Lv Meng, and Zhang Fei finally died by his sword. So, how do you know your own characteristics?
First, we should know our own characteristics in practical work.
For example, a personnel manager shared an interview with me. Once, he went to a big company to interview for a position as a human resources manager. The interviewer is a very straightforward person, without any ceremony. At the beginning, he asked a question: "We are in urgent need of important talents, and we will recruit 2,000 people in six months. What do you do? " In response to this question, he did not give an answer immediately, but asked the other party for some background information first. However, I didn't expect the interviewer to be impatient and directly interrupted him and said, "Our culture is to solve problems directly. I don't think you are in a hurry. Can you do recruitment? " HR manager understood at once that although the recruitment position of the other party is human resource management, the most important thing is actually to be responsible for recruitment. They need a "pure performer": do what you are told! The personnel manager is an analytical person, accustomed to "decision-making" and naturally unable to adapt to the culture of this company, so he failed in the interview later. Everyone's characteristics are mainly reflected in the different behavior styles. Some are "act immediately", some are "think while doing", and some are "think twice before you act". You can't just say which is good and which is bad. It depends on what kind of "trait" you belong to. So instead of arguing with each other, it is better to spend more time looking for a company and job that suits your own characteristics. After all, finding a job is like falling in love. You must look at each other. Therefore, a person's characteristics are actually closely related to the fields he is good at, and he can often show his ability and confidence in these fields. For example, if you are good at dealing with people, you will do work related to contacts, such as salesman and employee relations specialist; If you are good at dealing with numbers, you can become an analyst and an accountant ... these are the characteristics of a person, which you discovered after a long time and many things.
Second, we should know our own values.
People's external behavior habits are always supported by their internal beliefs, which often determine their values and even their career choices. Mr. Lu Xun is a medical student. He wants to cure China's disease by practicing medicine. However, during his study in Japan, a current affairs film was interrupted during the break. A man was shot in public as a spy, and many people in the crowd shouted "Long live". This scene stimulated him and made him feel very sad. He thinks that being a doctor can only save a few people, wake up the numb people and cure the general mental ignorance is the most urgent and important thing, so he chose to be a writer. Lu Xun said in the preface to Scream: "So my materials are mostly taken from the unfortunate people in a morbid society, aiming to expose the suffering and attract the attention of treatment." Lu Xun's original intention of studying in Japan was to study medicine, but a movie stung him, awakened his spiritual belief in saving the nation and making him feel that studying medicine was not the most important thing and turned to be a writer. In other words, is there any moment in your career that moved you? What is your work belief? Have you thought about it? I suggest that you must do what you think is really important and valuable! Then, one more thing, what should you do when what you are good at conflicts with what you want to do? Here is an example, which belongs to the management master peter drucker. When he was in his twenties, he worked as an investment banker in London, and his work was excellent. However, he resigned soon. He feels that numbers and money can't bring him a sense of accomplishment. He likes studying people and is interested in them, so he decided to become a management scientist. In other words, he chose what he wanted to do. Of course, not everyone of us can become a master and an expert, but the inspiration lies in that when you are good at conflict with what you want to do. You have to think about a question: what choice should I make? In other words, you have to choose your own direction. Don't be trapped by short-term interests, but have a long-term vision. Even if the reality is to survive, there is some helplessness, but we must set a time point: do whatever you want when? Only at work can you know whether this job is what you want? Only by thinking and comparing repeatedly and finding what you want most can you understand your values.
The second aspect, career orientation-what to do in the future?
The future is difficult to predict, but according to the law of inertia, we can use similar scenes in the past to predict your future career development direction. Some people say that what you did today is the result of your choice three years ago, which makes sense. Because the cause of your present situation today must be the result of countless actions. And combing through these histories, you will always find that some kind of internal logic is dominating your behavior. Therefore, when planning your future career, you must pay attention to the following three points.
1, recognize yourself, success is not portable.
"I want to have a job with more money and less things close to home." This is your idea, and there is nothing wrong with it, but have you ever worked hard for it? In fact, maybe you didn't make any effort at all, just thinking about it and it didn't come true. Imagination is something you can't control, but the fact is that you can do it according to the resources and abilities you already have. Some people are keen to play the game of business model and resource integration, and they are familiar with other people's business model innovation, but when it comes to themselves, there is a feeling that they can't start. Even though a perfect business model was designed, no one was found to implement it. This is ridiculous and purely theoretical! You are you, others are others. This is the biggest difference. People from 1 to n can innovate business models. You are from 0 to 1. Why should we integrate others? Why do others want to be integrated by you? Although those business models are clearly seen, you can't reach them! Because your resources are not at the same level as others, you can't do the same business model and the same things that others can do. Those business models and beautiful blueprints are just your imagination, and the resources and abilities you have are what you can master.
2. Distinguish between your hobbies and what you should do.
If I ask you if you like your present job? There may be three answers, one is like it, the other is not like it, and the other is like it or not. Like it or not, of course, there are many reasons, either caused by habit, forced by survival or determined by working environment. In fact, the most fundamental thing is whether you agree or disagree in your heart. Without value recognition, it is hard to say that you really like it. However, some jobs are not suitable for you, and you need someone to do them anyway. On the road to freedom, it will not be so smooth, and sometimes you need to make extra efforts and even sacrifice your own preferences. Just like an engineer, he likes to work alone, and it is best not to be disturbed by anyone. He likes the feeling of working alone However, if he wants to make his work more valuable, he sometimes has to suspend what he is doing and deal with other members of the team, so that the team members can realize the value of his work, thus providing better support and achieving the work goal. He cannot refuse to communicate or cooperate with others just because he doesn't like it. In that case, he won't be able to accomplish his work goal. When a person does something, he first carries it out as a professional, and the professional's measure is whether he should do it or not, not whether he likes it or not. Only by working with a sense of professional mission can he make greater contributions to his post.
3. Decide what to give up.
"Men are afraid of going into the wrong business and women are afraid of marrying the wrong husband", which is actually not a question of choice, but an opportunity cost. What is opportunity cost? That is, what you pay is not the cost, but what you give up. From an economic point of view, only those other things that you can't do after doing these things, the highest value is the cost. But do you think you can do the most valuable thing? For example, a quantitative strategy researcher, maybe you don't have the natural counting ability at all, and it will be very difficult to do that. It can be said that quantitative strategy researchers are not your "dish" at all-you won't give up until you get something. On the contrary, it is something that is more advantageous and easier to realize, so giving up this thing is your biggest price. From this perspective, don't give up your advantages easily. Of course, it also depends on whether the work itself conforms to its future development direction. If not, even if you offer good treatment, you should give it up on your own initiative.
An employee who did software testing joined a financial company with a high salary, but she resigned soon because the job requirements of this financial company deviated from her original idea. She has a certain foundation in software development and wants to do "automated testing". However, after she joined the company, she found that the automatic testing needed by this securities company was a year or two later, and manual testing could meet the needs at this stage. She was recruited as a reserve for the future. Because the manual test is highly repetitive, she thinks it is unnecessary to repeat it. This kind of work is a waste of time. Moreover, she was very clear about her career development, so she quickly offered to leave. I quite agree with the choice of this employee who is doing software testing. Don't choose to do repetitive work just for money, which will not only make you unhappy, but also add no value to yourself and be unfavorable to your future development, so resolutely give up such temptation. I suggest choosing a career according to my own values, which is more in line with my long-term plan.
The third aspect, career orientation-what are you best at?
In the final analysis, career orientation is when, where and how to better find your own advantages-what advantages do you have compared with others? Find or build your own advantages, starting with finding differentiation. For example, compared with ordinary developers, your technical ability is stronger, and your communication ability is better than that of people with stronger technical ability ... The so-called difference is actually the most intuitive expression: if you can't be the first, you must be the only one. What should I do when I find the only one? Of course, it is constantly strengthening and becoming a professional player or even a master. Maybe you are not necessarily loyal to the enterprise where you work, but you will be loyal to your career. Compared with professional players, when you really can't find your own advantages, you can choose infiltration methods, including purposeful selection of industries, companies and positions. For example, I want to open a small shop, but I know nothing about the operation of such a small shop. What are the low-cost access methods? One way is to sneak into companies in the same industry to learn skills and accumulate experience through part-time work. This way is actually the most common. Many bosses often start their own businesses after a company sells or makes successful products. The other is the way of investment. There are two kinds of investments. One is to invest money directly and be an investor, which does not involve specific operations. If so, choosing the right person is the most important thing. The second is to invest your own money and be responsible for specific operations. The advantage of entering in this way is to learn by doing and participate in all aspects of operation in person. The disadvantage is that it may take a long time and even take many detours, which is relatively high in terms of time cost. Because any industry has a potential "learning experience curve", as a latecomer, you must go through those roads and make some mistakes before you can understand what is right. As the saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day" requires continuous time and energy input, otherwise even the best career planning and strategy will be in vain.
Finally, let's review what we shared: how to plan your career? Thinking and diagnosis are mainly carried out in three aspects: occupational diagnosis, occupational orientation and occupational orientation;
First, analyze your own characteristics and understand your personal values according to the current situation;
Second, recognize yourself, distinguish between likes and should, and then decide what to give up;
Third, find out your own advantages and constantly accumulate and strengthen them.
