The School of Labor and Personnel of China Renmin University is the earliest teaching base and an important scientific research base for training human resource management professionals in China, which has an important influence on the teaching research and management practice of human resource management in China.
Since the establishment of 1983, the major of human resource management has been the key subject of the Institute of Labor and Personnel. The research direction of this major is human resource management in enterprises, institutions and government departments. The main research contents include the construction of strategic human resource management system, human resource planning, organizational behavior and leadership, recruitment and selection, training and employee skill development, personnel quality evaluation, job analysis and job evaluation, salary, welfare and incentive system, performance evaluation and performance management, career planning and management, etc. The training goal of doctor (or master) in human resource management is to master the basic theories and knowledge of enterprise management and labor economics, be familiar with the actual operation of various functions of enterprise management, be proficient in various theories and technologies of human resource management, be proficient in and be able to independently engage in the design, operation and implementation of different functions of human resource management, have basic management skills and leadership skills, master a foreign language, and be competent for the manpower of various enterprises and institutions, governments, public departments and various non-profit organizations.
In terms of professional construction, this major has presided over and completed a number of national, provincial and ministerial projects, and organized teachers to write a large number of books, teaching materials and papers on human resource management. In 2003, a series of excellent teaching materials on human resource management (*** 16) newly compiled by teachers in our department combined the most advanced western human resource management theory with the specific management practice in China, representing the highest level of this discipline, and was published by Shanghai Fudan University Press. In practice, this major has attached great importance to the practice of enterprise reform and development since its establishment. A group of teachers, led by Professor Peng Jianfeng, have become well-known experts in this field. They have provided consulting programs on human resource management and enterprise strategy for large enterprises such as Huawei and China Telecom for many times, and their achievements have had a great impact in the industry.
In terms of foreign academic exchanges, this major has established long-term friendly academic exchanges and cooperation with relevant departments of universities in Hong Kong and Taiwan, such as the International Labour Organization (ILO), the School of Labor Relations of Cornell University, and the Department of Management of Hong Kong Baptist University. The main academic exchanges and cooperation projects in the near future include: a distance education course on human resource management jointly organized with Cornell University in the United States, a joint training project on human resource development between China and the Netherlands in cooperation with the Dutch government, and a study on human resource management of Japanese enterprises in cooperation with Kobe Institute of Human Resource Management in Japan.
The career development prospect of this major is very broad. Since 1996, the primary employment rate has been as high as 100% for seven consecutive years. Most graduates have entered large enterprises and institutions and central and local governments, and are mainly responsible for human resource management. According to our follow-up survey, employers have a high evaluation of graduates of this major, and many outstanding graduates have taken up middle and senior management positions in enterprises and leadership positions in government departments, with outstanding work performance and performance.
