As the earliest city in Anhui Province, the convenience of railway transportation and the smooth navigation of Huaihe River have made Bengbu, a primitive fishing village, famous for its ancient merchants, and gradually developed into an important transportation hub in East China, an important national agricultural and sideline production base and a regional processing, commerce, science and technology and cultural center.
Bengbu has a long history and culture. It is one of the cradles of ancient civilization in China, and also the cradles of China characters. The first generation monarch of Xia Dynasty was Qi, and his mother was from Bengbu, where Dayu got married and had children, so Bengbu was also called the romantic "city of love". Many important events in history occurred and accumulated in Bengbu, such as Dayu's flood control, the founding of Xia Qi, the struggle between Chu and Han, and the Huaihai Campaign.
