Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, formerly known as Shanghai Metallurgical Research Institute of China Academy of Sciences and formerly known as National Engineering Research Institute of China Academy of Sciences, was established in 1928, which is one of the earliest engineering research institutions in China. After the founding of New China, it was affiliated to China Academy of Sciences. It was once named the Engineering Experimental Hall of China Academy of Sciences and the Metallurgical Ceramics Research Institute of China Academy of Sciences.
