What does ESRI mean?

Esri = Environmental Systems Research Institute, a subsidiary of American Environmental Systems Research Institute.

Established in 1969 and headquartered in Redlands, California, USA, Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. is the largest provider of GIS technology in the world. There are offices all over the United States, branches or agents in major countries around the world, and the total number of employees worldwide exceeds 4,000.
