The Happiness and Satisfaction of Handmade —— An Interview with Qingyan Ancient Town

The streets of Qingshiban in Qingyan ancient town of Guiyang are uneven. There are all kinds of small businesses, silverware, ironware, snacks and traditional snacks in the old houses with their own characteristics on both sides. Finished pig hands have the most workshops. The narrow streets are winding, and the local people who do business don't make any noise. They just introduced them kindly when the guests came to see them and let them taste them. They don't care whether they buy it or not. Guests don't make noise, just watch, taste or buy. This is quite different from the scene where street horns in the mainland are yelling and people are swearing. I feel a calm, peaceful and leisurely atmosphere, and it is very comfortable to wander among them.

By the way, who knows what this picture is? What is this for?

How to understand happiness? Ten thousand people have eleven thousand answers.

This girl is absorbed in making colorful ropes and colorful decorations on the small booth. Didn't she use her own imagination and hand-made it? She shows her understanding of beautiful things and love for life on these small ornaments, so she quietly does what she likes, which has nothing to do with the noise outside the ancient town!

Passing by this small shop, the first thing that attracted me was the strong aroma of words in this shop, and the simple and elegant temperament came to my face: all kinds of elegant words and famous sentences were appropriately engraved on various forms of bamboo products. Strolling around, I was suddenly moved by the demeanor of the owner's little brother: the young Shuai Shuai little brother can guard the shop so calmly and concentrate on making bamboo strips into what he wants. Isn't working like this a note of happiness?

In the distance, the sky is a little gloomy. Thin clouds cover the sky, with little rain. So the quiet ancient town has passed through the years in the mountains. Suddenly, I heard a little fire: an aunt was grilling some silver bracelets with iron clips. I am curious. I want to ask, why do you want to barbecue silver bracelets? Is it for styling? However, her behavior does not allow me to disturb, or I can't bear to disturb her. She was brushing her teeth again when I came back from there. It seems that everything around her has nothing to do with her. She just brushes this silver bracelet, just like a nun knocking on a wooden fish. At the moment, there is only Buddha in her heart.

This is the early basic work of making silver bracelets. Through the simple conversation of the veteran artists in the picture, I know that the first step in making a silver bracelet is to make a silver bar with a moderate length (Figure 1 2), then make the prototype of the bracelet with a mold (Figure 3), and then make the finished product by hand carving. The old craftsman said that it takes eight or nine days to make a beautifully crafted bracelet. I think, compared with the labor remuneration of most of us, their labor remuneration is so direct, tangible and fun. Even when enjoying the finished product, they can think of the barbecue when carving that place, burning their fingers and scratching the back of their hands. There is probably nothing like the pleasure of enjoying the finished products you have made!

Walking in the street, you will not be attracted by the tinkling sound, but the craftsman who makes silverware is beating the semi-finished silverware. This crisp sound is especially pleasing to the ear in a quiet street. They inherited their ancestors' craftsmanship, knocked out their livelihood, knocked out their annual rings, knocked out their art, and put the three pictures together. Have you found a feature of * * *? What impressed me was their manners, expressions and concentration in their work! How many people can devote themselves to their work now, enjoy their work and forget everything around them, or everything around them? This moment has nothing to do with themselves! Their minds are only related to the silverware in their hands. In my opinion, this state is one of the highest realms of happiness!

When I saw my second sister, I suddenly heard a sentence: Happiness is a struggle! I couldn't help laughing. My beautiful colleague Xiao Jiang asked me what I was laughing at. She smiled when I said this. At this moment, I think these two sisters are very beautiful and happy in my heart! Especially the elder sister (first from left) in the picture, she looks so contented, comfortable and peaceful, as if sitting in her own shop and cooking her own handmade food. She has the happiness of the whole world, and the happiness of women all over the world is monopolized by her! The sister on the right is reserved and focused, and seems to have forgotten everything. What kind of state is this? This is one of the highest realms of happiness! I don't know if this kind of happiness can "struggle" to get a big house and a luxury car in the city by going out early and returning late and working hard all day.

I bought bean curd and mushrooms fried by their traditional method from a teacher with a calm face. I know their life is full of flavor, but I think mushrooms are as long as tofu.

Suddenly I feel that I just live helplessly: work is for bread, and bread is for living. What are you living for? Think of a western saying, living is for happiness. Am I happy? Nobody knows.
