Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, formerly known as Nanjing Institute of Meteorology, was founded on 1960 and approved as a national key university on 1978. In May 2004, with the approval of Jiangsu provincial government and Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology. The school 1978 approved the enrollment of postgraduate students, 1993 granted the right to confer doctoral degrees, and 1995 approved the enrollment of students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreign countries. With the approval of the United Nations World Meteorological Organization, "WMO Regional Meteorological Training Center" was formally established in the school on 1993 to undertake the training tasks of senior meteorological scientists and technicians from all over the world. 1March, 1999, the postdoctoral mobile station of atmospheric science was established. In February 2000, the school was transferred from China Meteorological Bureau to Jiangsu Province.

The school focuses on undergraduate education and has established a complete education system from postdoctoral students, doctoral students, master students to undergraduates. At present, there are 1 national key disciplines, 1 national key discipline cultivation and construction sites, 5 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, 1 Jiangsu brand building specialty, 2 Jiangsu characteristic building specialties, 5 doctoral programs, 15 master programs and 42 general undergraduate majors. At present, there are 42 basic and professional laboratories, including Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Meteorological Disasters (National Key Laboratory Cultivation and Construction Site), Nanjing Sino-US Cooperative Remote Sensing Laboratory, Meteorological Observatory, Information Security Laboratory, Signal and Information Processing Laboratory and Geospatial Information System Experimental Center. The provincial Industry-University-Research base 1 and the teaching practice base 1 15 are listed inside and outside the school. The library has 65,438+065,438+046,000 paper documents. The school now covers an area of more than 2,000 mu with a total construction area of 400,000 square meters.

Since its establishment, the school has trained nearly 30 thousand students of all kinds for the country. The students trained by the school have a solid foundation, high quality and strong ability, which are generally welcomed by employers. In 2005, the undergraduate employment rate was 99.04%, and the graduate employment rate reached 100%. The major of atmospheric science in our university plays an outstanding role in higher meteorological education and is the main training base for senior meteorological talents in China. At present, most of the technical, business and management backbones of meteorological departments from the central to the provincial and prefecture (city) levels have graduated from our school. Some of them have become academicians of China Academy of Sciences and China Academy of Engineering, and many overseas alumni have become internationally renowned chief scientists and scholars, holding important positions in developed countries and international institutions such as Europe and America. The school's academic qualifications have been widely recognized internationally, including the United States, Britain, Canada, Japan, Australia and other countries.
