Yunnan Radio and TV University was established in May, 1979. Yunnan National Defense Industry Vocational and Technical College was established in July 2004. It was formed on the basis of integrating the quality education resources of Yunnan national defense science and technology industry, such as the former Yunnan National Defense Industry School, Yunnan National Defense Technical School and Yunnan Ordnance Industry Workers College. It is an ordinary higher vocational and technical college that focuses on engineering, combines production with management, and trains high-quality and high-skilled professionals for photoelectric, mechanical, chemical and electronic information industries. Approved by the provincial people's government, the two schools merged in June 2009. Under the leadership of the school party Committee, the management system of two brands, one team and one legal person and the operation mechanism of resource sharing and coordinated development are implemented.
