There are three main aspects of the consultant's ability:
One is theoretical knowledge:
This part has a great relationship with foreign academic qualifications, and professional mismatch often occurs in China. Because psychological counseling belongs to psychology, but many contents are special and need continuous lifelong learning.
Theoretical knowledge helps consultants to form coherent and solid professional knowledge, and also helps to evaluate visitors and form a conceptual understanding and judgment of their own profession.
But theoretical knowledge is not enough.
The second is technical ability:
Interview, listening, suspended attention, free association, dream analysis, using other tools (such as painting, dance, drama, etc.) and so on (I mainly talk about dynamic orientation).
And know how to deal with the internal factors such as consulting relationship, mutual influence between two people, empathy and anti-communism, resistance and so on. The way of working must conform to the theory, the counselor's own personality and the actual situation of visitors.
Usually, you should master the basic part first, and then start targeted training when you meet a specific visit after you start practicing. It also includes theory, practice and supervision.
The third is the personality state:
That's all that matters.
It is necessary to have a stable level of self-esteem, otherwise it is basically useless: most of the time I feel positive about myself and believe that I can evaluate my strengths and limitations; Be able to learn from mistakes and have realistic expectations for yourself and visitors; Regardless of the success or failure of the negotiation, you can bear your share of responsibility and guilt; Can accept criticism from visitors and others, but will not shake their own foundation; Ability to face anxiety and uncertainty
