Musicology is an undergraduate major in colleges and universities in China, and the study period is four years. The degree awarded is a bachelor of arts. Musicology mainly studies the basic knowledge and skills of musicology, music history, music behavior and music education.
Musicology majors involve vocal music, instrumental music, folk music, composition, lyrics, music theory and other aspects, performing music performances, instrumental music performances, arranging and composing, lyrics and so on. Xinghai Conservatory of Music, formerly known as Guangzhou Conservatory of Music, was founded in 1957. 1958 was established as Guangzhou Conservatory of Music, 1965 merged with Guangdong Dance School to become Guangdong Academy of Art, 1969 merged with Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts to become Guangdong People's Academy of Art, 1978 was renamed Guangzhou Conservatory of Music in March.
