Yao Shunyu's three generations practiced the "abdication system" because Yao Shunyu's period was all about the world. In order to listen to the opinions of the people, Yao set up a remonstrance forest in front of his palace. This is the embryonic form of China, and the people of the whole country will come to raise their opinions. It took a lot of courage and boldness at that time to make his successors fair to the whole world. Shun also passed the throne to Yu, who was at home for three times and made great contributions to water control, for the public interest. Therefore, the succession of Yao, Shun and Yu is purely out of public interests, not personal desires.
Yao gave the throne to Shun, not to his son, for many reasons. First of all, Yao's moral character is noble, focusing on the interests of the people all over the world and not favoring personal feelings; Second, Yao's son does not have noble character and enough ability to bear the responsibility; Third, Shun has both ability and political integrity, is a descendant of the Chinese people, and has the moral character and ability to inherit the throne; Fourth, the will of the people is supported by all parties.
