What are the three functions of statistics?

Statistics has three functions: information, consultation and supervision.

1. Information function: The statistical department sensitively and systematically collects, processes, transmits, stores and provides a large amount of socio-economic information with data description as the basic feature according to the scientific statistical index system and statistical investigation methods.

2. Consultation function: It refers to the comprehensive analysis and special research carried out in depth by using the rich statistical information resources that have been mastered, using scientific analysis methods and advanced technical means, and providing various alternative consultation suggestions and countermeasures for scientific decision-making and management.

3. Supervision function: According to statistical investigation and analysis, it refers to timely and accurately reflecting the overall operating state of economy, society and science and technology, and conducting comprehensive and systematic quantitative inspection, monitoring and early warning in accordance with the requirements of objective laws, so as to promote the sustained, stable and coordinated development of the national economy.
