Sutong Bridge is located between Nantong and Suzhou (Changshu) in the east of Jiangsu Province. It is an important channel for the national key trunk highway from Shenyang to Haikou to cross the Yangtze River planned by the Ministry of Communications. It is also an important part of the main skeleton network Ganyu-Wujiang Expressway in Jiangsu Province. It is the largest bridge project with the most complicated comprehensive construction conditions in the history of bridge construction in China. The construction of Sutong Bridge is of great significance to improve the national and Jiangsu trunk highway network, promote regional balanced development and overall development along the Yangtze River, improve the safe shipping conditions of the Yangtze River and ease the traffic pressure across the river.
Sutong Bridge starts from Xiaohai Interchange of Tongqi Expressway and ends at Dong Bang Interchange of Sujiahang Expressway. The total length of the route is 32.4 kilometers, which is mainly composed of three parts: the northern shore wiring project, the river-crossing bridge project and the southern shore wiring project.

The T-shaped rigid frame girder bridge with140+268+140 = 548m is adopted for the special waterway bridge, which is the second of its kind in China. The north-south approach bridge adopts 30-meter, 50-meter and 75-meter prestressed concrete continuous beam bridges;

Sutong Bridge adopts the standard of two-way six-lane expressway, and the calculated running speed of the north and south banks is 120km/h, and that of the river-crossing bridge is100km/h.. The design load of the whole bridge and culvert is 20 cars, 120 trailers. The navigation clearance of the main bridge is 62 meters high and 89 1 m wide, which can meet the navigation needs of 50,000-ton container ships and 48,000-ton fleets. The whole line needs about 250,000 tons of steel, 6.5438+0.4 million cubic meters of concrete, 3.2 million cubic meters of fill, covering an area of 1 10,000 mu, and demolishing 260,000 square meters of buildings. The planned construction period of the bridge is six years, and the actual construction period is five years.
