Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province is an earthquake zone. There are two main active periods of seismic activity in North China: the first active period is 148 1 ~ 1730, which lasts for 250 years. This active period has a climax, that is, from 1668 to 1695. In these 27 years, there have been four earthquakes of magnitude 7 or above in North China.

Among them, the largest earthquake was 1668 in Tancheng, Shandong, and the other was Sanhe Pinggu (1679).
