About Mohe River in Arctic Village

The city that never sleeps: Mohe

Aurora and Extreme Daylight —— Unique Natural Landscape of Mohe River

On the land of 9.6 million square kilometers in Fiona Fang, China, Mohe is located in the northernmost part of the motherland. Due to the high latitude, with the change of seasons, extreme weather with long days and short nights will appear every summer solstice. When extreme sunlight appears, 1 1 pm, it is still bright, and people can sit in the white night and read and write. When night falls to 1-2 after midnight, it gets a little dark and then starts to light up. At this time, the morning glow and Zhao Hui are shining in the northern sky, and its white night scene is spectacular. Therefore, tourists often call Mohe "the city that never sleeps".

Mohe White Night occurs from summer to nine days before and after. The Mohe River at this time is usually clear in Wan Li, which is the best tourist season. People can watch the Northern Lights and the white night, at the same time, they can watch the sunset glow and the red sky connected with Zhao Hui. (Since 1990s, Mohe County has designated the summer solstice as a tourism festival) Arctic Village has become an important tourist attraction in Mohe County. Whenever the summer solstice comes, thousands of people at home and abroad will go to the Arctic Village to watch the white night and the aurora. Tourists spend a white night in the Arctic village, often staying up all night, lighting bonfires, singing and dancing, suona sound, singing bursts.

Because Mohe is located in the northern hemisphere with high latitude, the aurora appearing in Mohe is the aurora emitted by the North Pole of the earth, and the aurora seen in Mohe is called the Northern Lights.

Mohe is the only best place to observe the Northern Lights in China, which is a blessing from nature to Mohe people. Although the Northern Lights appear all year round, it is easy to see in Mohe, only in the summer to around 9 days every year. Because the clear sky in Wan Li often appears in Mohe around the summer solstice, when there is no cloud barrier between the Arctic and Mohe, people can see the spectacular Northern Lights.

The northern lights come in many shapes. When Mohe appeared, people saw stripes, ribbons, umbrellas, fans, flakes, gourds, shuttles, cylinders, spheres and so on. The colors of the Northern Lights are red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue and purple, with distinct colors. From the first rise to the disappearance, the period is unpredictable and colorful. There are all kinds of beautiful legends about the aurora. Arctic Village is the only place in China where you can see the northern lights and extreme daylight.
