Golden bauhinia bronze carving. People's Republic of China (PRC) resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong and established the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The central government presented Hong Kong with a bronze statue of Golden Bauhinia, which was placed in the square facing the harbor in the new wing of the Convention and Exhibition Center. The official name of the sculpture is "Forever Blooming Bauhinia", which means that Hong Kong will be prosperous forever. On the morning of July 1997, Qian Qichen, then Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of China, and Tung Chee-hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, presided over the unveiling ceremony.
The bronze sculpture of golden bauhinia is 6 meters high. In design, Bauhinia is located on the base of round warm red granite. The pedestal is designed with the city wall, representing the Great Wall of Wan Li, China and symbolizing the motherland. The bottom of the pedestal is round, which means Fiona Fang in Kyushu. Bauhinia, on the other hand, represents Hong Kong, and the whole design symbolizes that Hong Kong is within the territory of China and a part of China.
