Hongkong is a world-class metropolis, and Guangzhou is the south gate of China. With the economic development and the deepening of reform and opening up in Guangdong Province, its status is becoming more and more important, and the city scale is also expanding rapidly. The relationship between Hong Kong and Guangzhou has historical and cultural origins. After the reform and opening up, the two places have become more closely linked.
Hong Kong and Guangzhou face many similar conditions and some common topics in urban construction. Especially with the development of economic construction, it puts forward urgent requirements for urban environment and urban infrastructure construction. The Hong Kong SAR Government and the Guangzhou Municipal Government have invested and will continue to invest heavily in improving the urban environment and building urban infrastructure such as urban bridges, elevated expressways, subways, light rails and sewage treatment plants. Urban construction in the two places is at its peak. On the other hand, with the passage of time, the aging of urban infrastructure is inevitable, and the maintenance needs are gradually emerging. In order to meet the needs of improving urban environmental quality and infrastructure construction and maintenance, it is planned to jointly establish an urban construction research center.
The University of Hong Kong is the oldest and highest-level university in Hong Kong. South China University of Technology is the most important engineering university in Guangdong Province and South China, and a key university directly under the Ministry of Education.
