Pile foundation design should be carried out according to the requirements of the following two limit states:
(1) limit state of bearing capacity: corresponding to the maximum bearing capacity of the pile foundation or the overall instability or deformation unsuitable for further bearing.
(2) Normal service limit state: It corresponds to that the pile foundation reaches the deformation limit specified in the normal service of the building or reaches a certain limit of durability requirements. The ultimate bearing capacity of all levels of pile foundation should be calculated, including the vertical (compressive and uplift) and horizontal bearing capacity of pile foundation, the strength of pile body and cap structure, and the combination of dynamic and seismic effects of pile foundation. Under normal circumstances, the settlement of Class I and Class II pile foundation with soft soil at the pile tip and cohesive soil at the pile tip should be checked. The horizontal displacement of pile foundation under horizontal load should be checked. Under some conditions, it is necessary to check the tensile cracking performance of pile body and pile cap.
