Military training is the basic form for students to receive national defense education, an important measure to cultivate "four haves" talents, and an extremely effective means to train and reserve our army's reserve soldiers and reserve officers and strengthen national defense forces.

The purpose of military training is to improve students' political consciousness, stimulate patriotic enthusiasm, carry forward the spirit of revolutionary heroism, cultivate the spirit of perseverance and hard struggle, enhance the concept of national defense and organizational discipline, develop a good style of study and life, and master basic military knowledge and skills.

"Military training" can be traced back to the slave society in Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, and there are records of military training for students in subsequent dynasties.

According to records, in Shang Dynasty, due to the increase of wars between governors, rulers paid more and more attention to military training. In addition to training regular troops, they also provided military education to nobles at all levels through schools.

According to the Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) on National Defense Education, not only college and high school students, but also primary and secondary school students should receive military training. The time is usually before school starts in September or after 10 National Day.

Pupils and junior high school students mainly train basic team arrangement and movements, and should not be overtrained.

On the basis of team arrangement, senior high school students train their daily abilities such as housekeeping and emergency evacuation, and give lectures on national defense knowledge.
