Pingnan is one of the 26 key hometown of overseas Chinese in Fujian Province. There are about 80,000 overseas Chinese, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, 90% of whom live in Southeast Asia. The average elevation of the county is 830 meters, which is one of the highest counties in Fujian Province. There is no cold in winter, no heat in summer, and the temperature difference between day and night in summer is large, which has obvious alpine climate characteristics. The main rivers are Baiyuanxi in the upper reaches of Gutian River and Chaxi in the upper reaches of Huotong River, with an annual average temperature of 15.4℃ and a frost-free period of 250 days. The scenic spot covers an area of 78.8 square kilometers and is divided into five scenic spots: Baishuiyang, Yiyang, Taibaolou, Liugongyan and Yuanyang Lake. Yuanyang Macaque Nature Reserve is the only Yuanyang Macaque Nature Reserve in the world. Thousands of mandarin ducks and macaques come here for the winter every year, and there are more than 20 kinds of national protected animals in the reserve, such as macaques, grasshoppers, leopards, Sumatran antelopes, pythons, pangolins and silver pheasants. On the southeast hill of Shanglou Village in the countryside, there is a water cypress known as a living fossil of plants, which is unique to China and a national first-class precious tree species. Shang Lou shui pine forest is the most intact primitive natural water pine forest in the world, and it is known as a rare living fossil of plants. There are 56 ancient covered bridges in China, including covered bridges 13, which is one of the counties with the largest number of covered bridges. Wan 'an Bridge is the longest existing wooden arch Wan 'an Bridge in China (98.2m).

Covered Bridge, Qiancheng Bridge, Longjing Bridge and Xiping Bridge are also included in the Technical History of Ancient Bridges in China edited by Mao Yisheng. Guangfu Bridge and Guangli Bridge are listed as provincial cultural relics protection units, while Qiancheng Bridge and Wan 'an Bridge are listed as national key cultural relics protection units. Siping Opera in Pingnan has been listed in the first batch of representative works of China's intangible cultural heritage, including Muppets, Zhangtou Puppets, Hokuriku Opera and Pingjiang Opera, and is known as the "hometown of drama". Pingnan Wushu has a long history. Wushu has been popular here since ancient times, and many excellent talents use Wushu to keep fit and eliminate violence. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, 14 celebrities dabbled in martial arts. For example, Gan, a famous soldier in the Qing Dynasty, was a native of Gan Tang. He served as a nine-door magistrate (from Yipin), a doctor in Rong Lu, and a company commander in Taiwan Province. Folk Wushu is popular, so it is called "the hometown of Wushu".
